What is PhilSA?
PhilSA is an University Recognized student organization at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. PhilSA is an abbreviated title for the Philippine Student's Association. The organization is dedicated to spreading Filipino culture around the campus and demonstrating unity and brotherhood amongst its members.
Do I have to be Filipino to join?
NO!!!! Absolutely not! PhilSA is open to any student of Texas A&M. In fact, we have a number of members who are not Filipino. Do not think you will totally be lost if you are not Filipino. None of our activities require you to know anything about the Filipino culture. It is something we hope to teach you.
How do I join?
Our membership is open to undergraduate and graduate students of any race, ethinicity, or culture. To be classified as an "active member," you must pay dues for the semester or for the year. If you feel that you can't be too active and would rather not pay dues, you are still welcome to attend any of our activities when you have time.
What does PhilSA do?
This organization is involved in a number of activities. We are well known around the campus for our dance performances. We enjoy performing traditional Filipino folk dances, but we also are partial to performing hip hop/modern dances. We have performed at big events such as MSC Variety Show, Dance Arts Society Spring Show, and many other events. However, we are not all about dance. Philsa likes to be involved with the community. In past years, we have participated in A&M's BIG EVENT. Also, many of our members are actively involved with the Boys and Girls Club in College Station. Every year, Philsa is also heavily involved in International Week. Go to the EVENTS section for more information.
